THE VESSEL SINK

I have loved the look of the vessel sink for years now and have had one in each of the homes I have built. When they first came on the scene some 10 years ago it felt like the only one who could afford them were the rich! Now not only are they a dime a dozen but the multitudes of styles and materials that you can find them in is enormous.

Recently on Twitter I ran into a conversation between 2 designers who couldn’t stand them! To tell you the truth this was the first I had heard of this,I thought everyone loved” The Vessel Sink!” When I inquired into the reason why,it turns out they didn’t like the mess they made with the water splashing, well unless you have a fish in the family I have never seen this as being a problem. 1. It truly depends on the depth of the sink, obviously the more shallow the more splashing 2. Don’t choose a wall mounted faucet (more on these in another post) choose a faucet that is going to have closer contact with the vessel then ones that are mounted higher.3. The most important thing that I have found useful is having your plumber turn the water pressure down! Most people when turning the water on always like to turn it on full blast,so turn it down low enough that you don’t get that splash back,I have found this to be extremely helpful.

Now back to the vessel sink…..I think they are beautiful sculptural pieces of art,and I don’t think they are going anywhere, and besides sometimes with the type of vanity you choose such as one that is open on the bottom, you can only really have a vessel sink.

So what are your thoughts on the vessel sink? Are you done with the look or do you think the style of them just keeps getting better? Love to know!

Here are some great picture of vessel sinks that seem the perfect choice in their environment.

Enjoy!

I LOVE them! It turns a room from a functional/utilitarian one into a beautiful room. All of the sudden the vessel sink becomes an accessory rather than a necessity. AND you can use any piece of furniture and turn it into a statement piece using the vessel sink. I’m with you on this one Dawna!

We are planning on redoing our ensuite this year. I would love 2 vessel sinks, but space is limited. Any leads on where to look in the lower mainland, White Rock area ?

    • Vessels sinks are hard to source or left to just plumbing distributors anymore. You can find them at Home Depot in their plumbing section as well as Rona. Good luck!

Speak Your Mind ... I love to hear from you !
