If there is one thing that I have learned in my years of designing and building it’s how important windows are to the entire success of your overall home no matter whether your home is large or small,so important that it will either make or completely break the entire design! In fact the biggest portion of your budget in my professional opinion needs to be set aside for the windows (and doors). There truly is nothing worse then seeing a beautiful home being built only to be ruined because the windows either don’t fit the design scheme or are just plain cheap, and I can spot them both a mile away. Think about it,when are you ever going to need to replace those windows……. NEVER! So you can’t have those stone counter tops you were wanting , instead you had to settle for Arborite for the time being ,or you can’t really have that Mooi light fixture you’ve been dreaming about for months, instead you have to make do with something less expensive for the time being. The point here is,those things can be replaced or upgraded in due time, windows shouldn’t have to be. So please the next time you are in doubt I beg you to hire a designer to help you decide what the right fit, quality and style of window you need that will work for your home, lack of doing so could unfortunately be a costly and visually displeasing mistake.
Here a few pictures that I have chosen of ones that made the right window choices!

A modern home with the right choice of a modern window, privacy is obviously not an issue hence the size. (Via: Hugh Jefferson Randolph Architects)

These windows look like they are older although they probably are new and what a great choice in the style of them seeing as they are such an eye catcher. (Via: Hanson General Contracting Inc)

This is very expensive to do, the way the glass meets together in the corner, but the overall effect is a show stopper! ( Via: Dick Clark Architecture)

I have a window very similar to this and in the same position and it frames a very beautiful view such as this one, another thing to think about in the design of your home those little pockets of opportunity. ( Via: Cary Bernstein Architects)

This is so fantastic! Fixed windows would have been ok,but this just takes it to a whole other level! (Via: Archia Homes)

How beautiful are these windows! And notice how making them extra tall doesn’t allow the detail to interfere with the view! ( Via Anderson Studio of Architecture and Design)
So how do you think the windows rate in the overall design scheme of your home? Love to know!

It makes me sad, when I see a great looking home that was utterly ruined by the wrong windows. Yes windows are expensive, and a big chunk of the budget goes towards the cost of windows. BUT they are either going to make or break the style of the house. And I’m with you, flooring, countertops, a lot of the finishing inside a house, can always be upgraded later, but once those windows are in, they are in…….you can’t change them later on. So people, choose carefully, or like you said, hire a designer to help you pick the correct windows, and you will save money in the long run.
Glad you agree!
I love the ocean front window! I hope I can have one of those in the future. *fingers crossed*
I hope you get it too. Just checked out your website you have some beautiful doors,I’ll be keeping this in mind!
