So where do you sit on this issue?
When I first started to write this post I could find loads of pictures for minimalist interiors, but when I tried to find pictures of maximalist spaces ,well let’s just say it was quite a challenge. Then I got to thinking what really defines a maximalist space? In actuality all a maximalist is,is the complete opposite of what a minimalist is and really nothing more ,but that can be quite a grey area. We know that people who favor minimal interiors don’t like a lot of clutter their spaces are fairly void of stuff. But just because you like to be surrounded by the things you love doesn’t mean that your home should be entered on the next episode of” Hoarders”either.
When I first moved into my home I didn’t really want anything in my house,I enjoyed the almost void space. As time went by though I found myself slowly starting to add things that told a story of who I am as the home owner, and for me that is what minimal spaces lack. I love the initial feeling I have when in them,but I don’t feel they tell anything about who the person is that lives there.
So what are your thoughts? Are you all the way with minimalism ,or are you just the kind of person that needs to be surrounded by your belongings? Love to know what your thoughts are!
Here are some pictures of both minimal interiors as well as interiors that have just the right amount of things to make them oh so comfortable! Enjoy!

I’m more of a maximalist; I like it cozy. I don’t like it when a room looks to sparse. But what I do have, it has to be something I love or find useful. I don’t want things around just for the sake of having them. I’d rather live with an empty space until I can find something I really want for it. And I love books – reading and decorating with them;
they can make a fabulous statement in a room. Great post Dawna!
I’m with you Peggy. Things that you pick up in your travels,books great pieces of furniture that you went on the hunt for and maybe have a history behind them,all these things give a home character and really there is nothing more rewarding then sharing those stories with people when they come over!
Thanks for your input!
I think I am somewhere in between. The first 5 photos (minimalist) look like no one lives there. And although the spaces themselves are beautiful, they lack personality and warmth. The first picture that you showed at the beginning of your blog, left me breathless. I mean, hyperventilating breathless…….too much clutter. I like to have my things surrounded by space, that way there is somewhere for the eye to rest when it goes from one item to the other. I guess I’m an inbetweenalist.
Love that Patty an Inbetweenalist!
I am somewhere in between but would love to tend more to minimalist….if there weren’t just so many nice things around:-)
I absolutely love the kitchen with the gray walls, turquoise fridge, and chandelier. The bedroom with the bookcase and coyote throw is another favorite. I know I lean towards the more is more….I like the feeling of being supported on all sides. Not so comfortable floating in a bare space. Thanks for for your posts….love them!
PS…love the peacock on the fridge….taxidermy anyone? This months edition of Lonny magazine(love) features both Nate Berkus and Emily Proctor. Emily is drawn to a little sophisticated taxidermy. Made me want to have a squirrel on the bookcase, seemingly dancing a jig and living an almost human life….fantasy! And now I want a peacock. I see and here them in our neighborhood, but they are so beautiful with a turquoise fridge!
